FAQ: The Silver Protector
FAQ meaning they have been asked at least twice :D And these are not all, but it will take time to go through the blog, and is not a huge priority. Mostly I will put stuff here when I am looking for old snippets and come across a question that fits. Will the Ancient be an RO?
Answer: No, absolutelu not. MC has enough trauma, and the Ancient has no interest. Who said the Ancient is even available?
Who are the RO:s?
Answer: The only confirmed ones are the twins. In addition, my original notes say the following:
"silver protector recruit (child of an innkeeper seems like a good idea)"
"Some sort of "noble" (protector?), out of touch with the world would be a good idea I think."
and
"grey protector recruit/grey protector".
This is far in the future. Perhaps when MC is a teenager/young adult. Nothing is set in stone though. These are the notes I made probably years ago about the basic structure and characters. Things can change and as you can see, I was writing down options.
In addition, from the blog suggestions:
"Adventurer. Potentially FREAKISHLY tall buff and mean"
Then there are two more ideas in those original notes, but I have to keep something to myself :D And I am not saying these will happen. I am saying, these are the ideas I have written down. I might also have more ideas at some point.
Can Havard and/or Lexia be called dad and/or mom at some point?
Most likely, yes :D
Can a dragon MC breathe fire?
Currently I am thinking it could be something triggered later... So not right now. I do sort of like that maybe it can only happen if MC has "strong enough" dragon heritage :D We will see. Though of course not all dragons breathe fire... How many elements are there? I am really not making this easy on myself, am I? I will need to think about it :D
Will a non-verbal MC be able to talk at some point?
The plan is that MC could have some kind of a magic communicator that could speak for them (insert Darth Vader voice). However, I have not implemented this yet.
I do think that perhaps I will offer the choice for a nonverbal MC to speak later, once they are a bit older. However, the harder it will be the longer they stay silent, so it might just a try. Perhaps in a moment of great distress... Or maybe some magical healing can help MC talk later if they try and fail to do so. Or just the magical communicator :D
What would happen if MC chose to die in prologue?
The Ancient ("Grandpa" Sheo) would not bury MC. Undead are a thing in this world though are quite dependent on location and circumstances.
Grandpa Sheo would bring MC's body outside of the place they were in but not into the orphanage. He would turn MC's body into raw mana, so MC would return to the Eternal Flow of mana in Wocdes. The mana would be re-distributed and become a part of the world, perhaps new life in whatever form that takes and that would be that.
Then Sheo would be on his way, doing whatever he does. He would be the only one to remember, which is more than most in Wocdes get.
"4 heritage options don't seem enough" or "I would like less options with more content"
Well, originally there was only one feature :D Then I revised the system to accomodate more. Increasing them is not super hard, but I feel like there should be a limit, and four seems ok for most.
Options with less content would again require overhaul, and people would hate me for taking away options. I cannot please everyone, and the current system has received some good feedback. Therefore it stays.
Of course, I will accept suggestions for new heritage features, but I will not promise to implement them :D Just to consider them.
Does MC have different lifespans depending on what heritage they have. For example like they live longer than a normal human if with dragon heritage etc?
We can assume that those with strong immortal heritage will live longer though it is debatable by how much for the current story, everyone here so far (aside from the Ancient) is also part human here and the heritage features are supposed to be inherited from far back.
Still, let us assume people with different heritages develop at the same rate as everyone else (and pretty much have to assume or otherwise we get into too much trouble with timelines and stuff). I view this as a function of the environment. I.e. being surrounded by other children and adults of a very mixed heritage will adjust their perception of time. A sort of "life in your years vs. the years in your life thing." As in, if an immortal is surrounded by mortals they will experience life at the same rate as those mortals in the moment. If an immortal is surrounded by other immortals, everything slows down. (I am using an immortal here as a catch all word for every species that just lives a very long life.) Alternatively, we could assume that the human blood has diluted the immortal blood too much (but I don't like this as much now, it made more sense when everyone could have one heritage feature but not so much now that you can have many).
Will MC be able to learn magic?
Yes, magic is planned to be an option for MC, though "magic" is a little too general :D Not like MC can learn all magic, but some specialization. I don't have all the details worked out about what specifically to offer for MC to learn.
Will there be an option to be trans as the MC grows up?
The current plan is that once MC is an adult, there will be an option to choose who you have grown into, similar to the initial choice in the first interlude, none of them locked based on your initial choice.
It will of course be a long time before we are there.
It is a magical fantasy world in a medieval(ish) setting where a magical option is available to those with access to the proper magic/funding, like orphans raised at an orphanage funded by the Ancients where both magic and money are plentiful.
